Project Description:
The modern media landscape is a deluge of information, which at times constructs and distorts truth. Gilad Lotan breaks down how these distinctions play out in the media coverage of the war events in Gaza. This visualization of the Twitter graph details the landscape of Twitters users responding to the UNWRA school bombing. Different colors indicate different community memberships, which have more internal connectivity than they do to the rest of the graph. The size of the username indicates their centrality (how many followers) on the graph, while relative position indicates number of mutual connections. A clear separation is visible between "pro-Palestinian" activists and more traditional media groups and journalists. In all cases, Lotan finds that people are mostly connected to, and receiving information from, ideologies and people similar to themselves.
