Project Description:
This work of "Data Fiction" illustrates an alternative narrative of H1N1, originating in the laboratory of one of the largest manufacturesr in the world. Asendorf and Lange tell the story of an employee, John, in this fictional scenario, with information visualization and network diagrams. The story is haunting in its plausibility, coupled with innovative visualizations that illustrate, among many other stories, John's salary increases coupled with his hair loss, development of a drug habit, and the worldwide distribution of "refugees" from Sumedicina. This particular visualization, "Information Ways", illustrates the spread of the fictional news of the fictional Sumedicina among the world's newspapers. The narrative complicates the authority we naturally give to data visualizations.
