Project Description:
This project from Northeastern University comprises data, visualizations, and interpretive prose that researches how thematic and textual qualities of media helped stories, short fiction, and poetry "go viral" in nineteenth-century publications. Before these pieces were protected under intellectual property regulations, it was common for these prose texts to be copied and circulated among newspapers. The project fundamentally asks, "What texts are reprinted and why?" Nodes in this network visualization represent newspapers, while edges and their widths represent reprinting activity between them.
