Project Description:
This visualization illustrates how the world's news media groups produce a geographic network across the planet, structured into "communities" of production. The GDELT project compiles a list of countries mentioned in all articles from a source country, yielding a ranked list of co-occurrences. If countries are mentioned together often, it could be a product of geographic closeness, but also of strong political or economic ties besides just geographic adjacency. This interactive visualization combines the co-occurrences with Google's ARms Globe visualization to study how these groupings vary over time.
