Project Description:
This visualization analyzes the responses of teachers to a survey undertaken by the OECD (Organization for Economic Cooperation and Economic Development) and their TALIS 2013 (Teaching and Learning International Survey) to provide a bird eye's view on the current situation of teaching. The survey was conducted in 34 developed countries on over 100,000 teachers. The icons on the outer edge of the visualization indicate how happy teachers were with their work in general. The size of the circles on the next inner layer illustrate the number of hours spent weekly on preparing lessons, and teaching in the classroom, allowing for direct international comparisons. The responses of the teachers to the questions about their main objectives for teaching comprise the line graphs. Countries are the nodes, spaced equally on the radial visualization. This piece ultimately illustrates the global networks of teaching and allows for direct comparison, on an international scale, of the state of teaching.
